Parental Sponsorship

The Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP) allows eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor a parent (or grandparent) for Canadian permanent residence. Sponsorships are submitted to IRCC and result in the sponsored parent receiving Canadian permanent residence.

Important: The PGP operates under an annual intake process with limited spots. IRCC opens an online portal each year to collect Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Only applicants who receive an ITA can submit a full sponsorship application. This service covers preparation and submission of the complete sponsorship and PR application package once an ITA has been received.

Sponsoring two parents together is treated as a single application with a combined fee of $3,000 + HST, reflecting the additional preparation involved.

**Government fees** are $1,205 per sponsored parent ($85 sponsor fee + $545 processing fee + $575 Right of Permanent Residence Fee). Biometrics ($85 per person) may also be required.

PGP processing times are set by IRCC and vary by intake year. Processing typically takes 20–24 months or longer after the full application is submitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Important Limitations

  • This service requires that an Invitation to Apply (ITA) has already been issued by IRCC. Flatly does not assist with the ITA lottery/intake portal registration.
  • Sponsors must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) threshold set by IRCC for the three tax years prior to the application. Eligibility is confirmed at intake.
  • Government fees and third-party costs (medical exam, police certificates, translations) are the client's responsibility and are not included in the flat legal fee.
  • Approval is not guaranteed. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada makes all final decisions.
