For Lawyers

Partnering with Flatly

How Ontario lawyers can receive referrals from Flatly for matters outside the scope of the platform's own practice.

What Flatly Is

Flatly is the personal legal practice of Ryan Keeney, a licensed Ontario lawyer (LSO #65398E). It is not an open marketplace and it is not a multi-lawyer firm. The platform exists to help clients find, understand, and request flat fee legal services — all performed by or under the direct supervision of Ryan Keeney.

That said, Ryan's practice is focused on specific areas of law. When clients come to Flatly with matters in areas outside that scope — such as family law, wills and estates, criminal defence, immigration, and real estate closings — those clients need to be referred to the right lawyer.

This is where referral partners come in.

What a Referral Partner Does

Approved referral partners are Ontario lawyers who practise in areas that fall outside Flatly's own scope. When a client contacts Flatly with a matter in one of those areas, they may be referred to an approved partner who is a good fit for the matter.

Partners do not list their services on the platform. They do not pay listing fees. The arrangement is a compliant referral under the Law Society of Ontario's Rules of Professional Conduct — structured with proper documentation, required client disclosures, and appropriate referral fee terms where applicable.

Approved partners receive referrals when a client matter matches their area, geography, and capacity. There is no obligation to accept every referral.

Areas Where Referrals Are Made

Flatly currently refers matters in the following practice areas, as these fall outside the scope of Ryan Keeney's own practice.

Family Law

Separation, divorce, child custody, support, and family court matters.

Criminal Defence

This list may expand over time. If your practice area is not listed, you are still welcome to apply — include your area in the application and we will consider it.

This Is Not an Open Marketplace

Flatly is not an open legal marketplace. Third-party lawyers do not list services on this platform. The only lawyer whose services are marketed on this platform is Ryan Keeney (LSO #65398E). Referral partner arrangements are limited, selective, and structured to comply with the Law Society of Ontario's referral fee rules.
